Hamza Shehbaz’s physical remand extended till Aug 10

LAHORE (92 News) – An accountability court extended the physical remand of Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly Hamza Shehbaz for seven days in the assets beyond means and money laundering case. The court ordered the NAB to again produce him on August 10. Hamza’s counsel told the court that the NAB had already been granted more than 50 days of remand. The NAB had requested for an extension of 15 days in the physical remand of Hamza, which the PML-N leader’s counsel rejected. He contended that no recovery was made from his client and that there was no need for the physical remand. He requested the court to send Hamza to jail on judicial remand. The NAB’s prosecutor told the court that two 'benami' companies under Hamza’s name had been found. Earlier on August 1, an accountability court had extended the judicial remand of Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Hamza Shehbaz till August 9 in Ramazan Sugar mills case. The PML-N leader was presented before the accountability court Lahore. However, PML-N president Shebaz Sharif could not appear before the court due to Senate election. Later, the court extended the judicial remand of Hamza Shehbaz till August 9. On June 11, the premier anti-corruption watchdog had arrested Hamza in the same cases and shifted him to the bureau’s headquarter at Thokar Niaz Baig in Lahore after the Lahore High Court (LHC) turned down his applications for extension in his interim bail. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in February had filed a reference against the two alleging that the former Punjab chief minister misused his authority by using public funds for the construction of a bridge to facilitate the Ramzan mills, owned by his sons.
