Monsoon rains wreak havoc across Punjab cities, 17 killed and 38 injured

LAHORE (92 News) - The recent spell of monsoon rains has wreaked havoc in different cities of the province, killing 17 people and injuring 28 others.

According to a report issued by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), nine deaths have been reported in Punjab while eight people died in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Owing to rains, 15 houses were damaged.

More rains are expected in the upper areas of Sutlej, Ravi and Chenab rivers. There is a threat of urban flooding and flood-like situation in several areas. Floods and landslide are likely in the upper areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Balochistan.

On the other hand, incessant rain inundated the low-lying areas in Lahore. As a result, traffic was disrupted on roads. In Raiwind, a man was electrocuted when a live wire fell into rainwater. In Nishtar Town, three people were injured when the roof of their house collapsed. Crevices appeared on roads in Johar Town and PECO Road. In Liaquatpur, a boy and his sister drowned while swimming in a swimming pool.

Road turned into canals in several cities, including Okara, Chunian, Phoolnagar, Kasur, Pattoki and adjoining areas.

Meanwhile, rain continued with intervals in Karachi and interior Sindh. In Karachi, the flight operation was stopped due to incessant rain on its premises.

The rain spell continued in Hyderabad, Mirpur Khas, Tando Jam and Thatha. In Jacobabad, the low-lying areas have drowned.
