Monsoon spell: Light rain hits various parts of Karachi

KARACHI (92 News) – Light rain hits the various parts of Karachi in the wee hours of Wednesday and turning the hot weather into pleasant. According to the report, the light shower was reported in areas of Malir, Landhi, Korangi, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Johar, Liaquatabad and other areas. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, light to moderate rain is expected in various parts of the metropolis during the day. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) today predicted that the hot and humid weather will prevail during the day with the maximum temperature expected to rise to 37 degrees Celsius Earlier on Tuesday, the electricity was not restored in different areas of Karachi after many hours of rainfall. Few minutes of rain in Karachi exposed performance of K-Electric as rainfall plunged most parts of Karachi into darkness. The citizens continue to suffer from long hours of power outages on Monday evening on Tuesday. Torrential rains wreaked havoc, bringing with it hours-long power outages in multiple neighbourhoods despite claims by the K-Electric that it had made improvements in its system ahead of the thunderstorm. The areas facing power outage include Gulshan-e-Iqbal block, Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, Gul Bahar, Malir, North Karachi, Gulistan-e-Johar, Landhi, Korangi, North Nazimabad, Malir, Defence, and other parts of the city. It was reported that the power supply to half of the city was disconnected due to the tripping of feeders.
Rain emergency after first monsoon spell
The monsoon system was said to have been in Karachi’s southeast since the morning and had strengthened due to humidity from the sea, leading to the first rain in Pakistan’s financial capital. As the torrential rain accompanied by a thunderstorm started late afternoon in Karachi, two trees were reported to have been downed near Drigh Road on Shahrah-e-Faisal and the Arts Council of Pakistan, leading to traffic blockage. Commuters are facing difficulties in transportation due to poor sewerage system during heavy downpour of monsoon season, at Bagh-e-Jinnah in Karachi.
