May 15, 2019
LONDON (92 News) – England skipper Eoin Morgan will miss Friday's fourth one-day international against Pakistan in Nottingham after being suspended for a slow over-rate offence, the International Cricket Council said on Wednesday. Morgan has been suspended for one ODI and fined 40 per cent of his match fee, while his players have been fined 20 per cent of their match fees, for maintaining a slow over-rate during the third ODI against Pakistan on Tuesday. Match referee Richie Richardson imposed the suspension on Morgan after England were ruled to be two overs short after time allowances during their victory over Pakistan in the third ODI in Bristol on Tuesday. The ICC said it was Morgan's second minor over-rate offence after being previously found guilty during the Barbados ODI against the West Indies in February. Morgan was also fined 40per cent of his match fee, while the players were hit with a 20per cent fine. "In accordance with Article 2.22.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minor over-rate offences, players are fined 10per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount," the ICC said in a statement. Wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow has been reprimanded by the ICC for hitting the stumps with his bat after his dismissal for 128 in the 29th over of the same match. ICC confirmed that one demerit point was added to the disciplinary record of Bairstow, his first since the introduction of the revised code in September 2016.
Morgan, Archer star in England T20I win over Pakistan
An unbeaten half-century from England captain Eoin Morgan and a brilliant T20I debut for Jofra Archer ensured England overcame Pakistan by seven wickets in Cardiff. Archer took 2/29 as England restricted their opponents to 173/6, the newly qualified Englishman dismissing both of Pakistan’s set batsmen in the same over. Morgan’s 29-ball 57* then shepherded his side to victory over the MRF Tyres No.1 ranked side in the format, with a crunching straight six securing the match in the final over. Having won the toss and elected to bat, Pakistan lost Fakhar Zaman (7) early to a stunning Morgan catch, and No.3 Imam Ul-Haq (7) became Archer’s first victim in T20Is in the fifth over, edging a wicked bouncer behind to Archer’s fellow debutant Ben Foakes.
