MQM Pakistan’s APC cancelled after political parties turn down invitation

MQM Pakistan’s APC cancelled after political parties turn down invitation
August 22, 2017
KARACHI (92 News) – An All Parties Conference (APC) of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM Pakistan) scheduled for today (Tuesday) with a view to forging a political consensus on the issues has been cancelled at the eleventh hour. The APC has been cancelled after four political parties including Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) refused to attend the All Parties Conference (APC) called by Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-Pakistan). The parties that had turned down the invite include PPP, PTI, Jamat-e-Islami (JI), Pakistan Muslim League-Factional (PML-F), Sunni Tehreek, Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and others. The Awami National Party (ANP) had also turned down the MQM-P’s investigation. On the other hand, the rift appears to be narrowing between the two breakaway factions of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), which had been constantly criticizing each other after they splintered from the parent MQM. The two factions drew closer when an MQM-Pakistan delegation called on leaders of Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP), inviting the later to take part in an All Parties Conference (APC). Accepting the invitation, Advocate Anees Ahmad, a senior PSP leader, asked the MQM delegation to announce their categorical dissociation with the “traitor of the motherland”, referring to Altaf Hussain, the pioneer of the MQM, who has been in self exile in London for decades.
