MQM’s Wasim Akhtar takes oath as Karachi mayor

KARACHI (92 News) – MQM’s Waseem Akhtar has taken the oath as mayor of the city on Tuesday in a ceremony held at Polo Ground. Arshad Vohra also took oath as deputy mayor of Karachi. Earlier, Waseem Akhtar was shifted to the venue from Central Jail. Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Commissioner Samiuddin Siddiqui administered the oath to the mayor and deputy mayor of Karachi. Addressing a gathering following the oath-taking ceremony, Waseem Akhtar thanked the people of Karachi, party workers, PML-N, PTI and other political parties for electing and supporting him. He said that they could not think of anti-Pakistan talk. "I will raise my hand first of all when someone will betray Pakistan," he said. The Karachi mayor chanted the slogan of Pakistan Zindabad. He also raised the slogan of Jiye Muttahida, Jiye Bhutto and Jiye Imran Khan. He said that they would resolve the problems of the city jointly. Uproar was raised during the oath-taking ceremony. The people raised the slogans of 'Pakistan Zindabad' and  'Altaf Ka Jo Yar Hey Ghaddar Hey Ghaddar Hey'.
