Muharram procession: Three participants electrocuted to death in Karachi

KARACHI (92 News) - Three participants of a Muharramul Haram procession were electrocuted while as many others suffered burns after alam (flag) they were carrying touched live electric wires in Gulistan-e-Johar on Saturday. Police said a Muharram procession was continuing in Bhattai Abad when six people received electric shocks from alam, a symbol for Muharram procession, that touched overhead live wires. Soon after the incident, witnesses rushed the injured to a private hospital where doctors were not available. The heirs of the injured raised hue and cry over not getting treatment. Ali Raza, Ali Umar and Sony Magsi were among the dead while injured were identified as Sameer, Afzal Agha and Mohsin Shah. The locals in the area protested against K-Electric for not fixing electricity wires. The spokesperson for K-Electric in a statement expressed grief over the deaths, saying current passed through Alam when it touched some wires hanging in the air. The spokesperson issued caution for citizens attending Moharram procession to be careful during movement and avoid electricity wires. In another incident, one Aamir died of electrocution at home in Sachal Goth area of Karachi.
