Mullah Omar did not die in Karachi, says Defence Minister Khawaj Asif

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Defence Minister Khawaj Asif has said that neither Mullah Omar died in Karachi nor he is buried in Pakistan, adding that Pakistan does not want to interfere in Taliban’s internal rift. Addressing the National Assembly, he said that they did not know whether Mullah Omar was killed or died of any disease. The defence minister said that the Taliban have never united nor they will ever unite. He said that whoever becomes the leader of the Taliban, they wanted them continue peace process, adding that Taliban is not under Pakistan’s control and they can only try to pursue them for peace talks with the Afghan government. Khawaj Asif said that their strategic policy is that the peace process should continue and peace prevails in Afghanistan. He said that Pakistan is only playing a mediator role between the Taliban and Afghan government, while the US and China are the observer. The defence minister said that they wanted to wash away stains of the past with the peace in Afghanistan.
