ISLAMABAD (92 News) – A special court on Monday decided that hearings of Musharraf high treason case would be conducted on a daily basis from October 9. A two-member bench headed by Justice Yawar Ali in the special court heard high treason case against former military dictator (r) General Pervez Musharraf. During the hearing, Justice Yawar remarked, “this is the last time we are adjourning the case as it has to be taken to a logical conclusion.” Justice Yawar questioned that can the Ministry of Interior present Musharraf before court beside Interpol. Justice Yawar then directed the Ministry of Interior to submit a written statement on whether Musharraf can be presented before the court. The justice announced that the case will be heard on a daily basis from October 9. Justice Yawar said that senior prosecutor Naseeruddin Khan Nayyar will present arguments as the court’s legal adviser and adjourned the hearing till October 9. The case pertains to the imposition of extra-constitutional emergency in the country in 2007. The special court indicted Gen Musharraf for high treason in March 2014. On March 18, 2016, Musharraf left Pakistan for Dubai for medical treatment after his name was removed from the exit control list on the orders of the Supreme Court. The special court declared the accused a proclaimed offender and ordered confiscation of his properties which could not be attached due to the litigation in courts. It ordered that Gen Musharraf’s computerised national identity card (CNIC) and passport be blocked. The outgoing PML-N government in May executed the court order and blocked his CNIC and passport.
