PESHAWAR (92 News) – After the retirement of Justice Tahira Safdar, the federal government appointed Justice Waqar Ahmed Seth as the bench’s new head in high treason case against former president Pervez Musharraf. The three-judge bench of the special court, headed by Justice Waqar Ahmed Seth, accepted a plea by Musharraf’s to postpone the hearing on the grounds of his counsel’s ailment. The petition requesting adjournment stated that Musharraf’s counsel, Raza Bashir, was suffering from dengue and is currently under treatment at a hospital. The former army chief, who took power in 1999, is facing a treason trial under Article 6 of the Constitution as well as Section 2 of the High Treason Act on a complaint moved by the federal government. The trial court, in line with the Supreme Court’s (SC) directive, was scheduled to record Musharraf’s statement to complete the trial but he could not appear before the court due to medical reasons.
