Muslims in Saudi Arabia and other countries celebrate Eid al-Adha

RIYADH (92 News) - Muslims in Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, other GCC countries, Turkey and Russia celebrated  Eid al-Adha with religious zeal and fervor on Sunday.

Two biggest Eid congregations in Saudi Arabia were held at Masjid al-Harram and Masjid Nabwi.

Muslims in the United Kingdom (UK) again showed division over celebrating the religious festivity like Eid al-Fitr as Eid al-Adha prayers were offered partially in parts of the country.

Muslims in Britain offered Eid prayers in some cities while others would celebrate Eid with Pakistan today.

The annual Islamic festival, which this year begins on August 11 in the UAE, sees Muslims offer a sacrificial animal (typically a goat or sheep ) in gratitude for Allah’s blessings.

Eid al-Adha is named after the sacrificial ritual, one of the rites of the Hajj in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, where some two million Muslims from around the world have gathered for the annual occasion.

World leaders share Eid greetings

World leaders shared Eid greetings with Muslims by expressing good wishes.

Britain Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in their view messages greeted Muslims with heart-touching wishes.

British High Commissioner to Pakistan Thomas Drew reached a sacrificial animal point in Islamabad to share Eid greetings with Pakistani people. 

He offered his Salam to all Pakistanis and shared greetings on behalf of the UK government and the High Commission Islamabad.

Interestingly the ambassador used Urdu language to greet Pakistanis.
