ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The National Assembly passed the Election Act 2017 with a majority, abolishing the right of overseas Pakistanis from abroad and the use of the electronic voting machine (EVM).

Moreover, the bill pertaining to amendments of the NAB laws was also presented in the House.

Addressing the House, Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar said that the government was making amendments as per the constitution. "The NAB cannot act against a government employee until the proofs of corruption," he added.

He said that the NAB law will have the right of bail like other laws. The minister said that a parliamentary committee had been formed for electoral reforms. "The committee has representation of all political parties. Those setting the trees on fire are not included in the committee," he told the House.

Azam Nazir Tarar said that former prime minister did not want legislation in this regard. "The former government continued to run the affairs through the ordinance," he added.
