National Assembly passes NAB Amendment Bill 2021

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The National Assembly approved the NAB Amendment Bill 2021 with a majority on Thursday.

Federal Law Minister Azan Nazir Tarar presented the bill, which was approved section-wise. Under the bill, the accused would be presented in court within 24 hours.

The court will grant the remand for 14 days instead of 90 days. The decisions of the federal and provincial cabinet will not come under the NAB. The NAB would not be able to take action on the decisions of any regulatory institution.

The bill also clarified the procedure of the retirement. On the retirement of the NAB chairman, the deputy chairman will be the acting head. A person completing his three-year tenure will not be appointed as the NAB chairman.

The federal government, instead of the President, has been authorized to appoint the NAB deputy chairman. The appointment of the NAB chairman will be completed in 40 days.

The accountability court judges will be appointed for three years. The accountability court will decide corruption cases within one year. The responsible person will be punished for five years if the case is proved to be false.
