NAB chairman bars all officers from giving media interviews

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Javed Iqbal on Monday barred all the directors general and other officers from giving interviews to media channels. According to a press release, the NAB chairman reaffirmed the vow that all mega-corruption cases would be taken to their logical end. Justice (r) Javed Iqbal said the media can only contact with NAB’s spokesperson to get details on case concerned with public. In the press release, the chairman said that NAB respects all the honourable members of the assembly. He added that the bureau has sought record of media interviews by NAB Director-General Lahore Maj (r) Shahzad Saleem from the Pakistan Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA). The press release clarified that the interview of Lahore NAB DG will be overviews according to the law. However, the NAB chairman directed to the media for ignoring to express opinions to ongoing probes. Meanwhile, Javed Iqbal met with Lahore DG Shehzad Saleem and he was briefed about the key important details. On the occasion, the NAB chairman terms corruption as the ‘cancer’ for Pakistan, adding that the bureau is trying to put out corruption from the roots. The anti-graft watchdog head vowed that all mega corruption cases will be taken to their logical end and directed to enhance the speed of probe against important cases. Earlier, NAB Director General Lahore Saleem Shehzad has been accused by the opposition, specifically Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz, of carrying out media trial. The joint opposition also tabled a privilege motion in the National Assembly suggesting swift intervention of the House into the matter.
