NAB challenges AC’s decision of releasing Cpt (r) Safdar on bail

NAB challenges AC’s decision of releasing Cpt (r) Safdar on bail
November 3, 2017
KARACHI (92 News) – The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has on Friday challenged the accountability court’s (AC) verdict of releasing Captain (r) Safdar, son-in-law of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on bail following his arrest by the country’s anti-graft watchdog. The petition was filed in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) by the NAB prosecutor. The petitioner contended that the accountability court (AC) went beyond its jurisdiction while granting bail to Safdar since it lacked powers to approve the bail after issuing non-bailable warrants for his arrest. The petition prayed the court to suspend the trial court’s verdict. The AC had released Captain (r) Safdar on bail who was presented before the court by National Accountability Bureau (NAB). The court had rejected NAB’s request to confiscate Safdar’s passport and to issue his judicial remand, however, he had been directed not to leave the country without court’s permission. Copies of references had also been handed over to PML-N leader. Captain (r) Safdar was arrested on October 9 by NAB from Islamabad airport as he returned from London along with wife Maryam Nawaz.
