ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Former defence minister and PML-N leader Khawaja Asif questioned the incumbent government’s role in trapping National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman (rtd) Justice Javed Iqbal to save its own people. Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly, the PML-N leader said that the government has become alert so a trap was set against NAB chairman. He said while speaking on the controversy that was caused by some leaked audio and video clips involving NAB chairman.
Asif demands parliamentary body over NAB chief tape leaks
Khawaja Asif demanded formation of a parliamentary committee to probe the controversy over leaked audio and video clips of the NAB chairman. Terming the controversy an attempt to dent the NAB chairman’s credibility, he urged the NA speaker to constitute a parliamentary committee to probe into the affair.
PTI govt blackmailing Javed Iqbal
The PML-N leader accused the PTI government of blackmailing the corruption watchdog’s chairman to save its own people. He alleged the government got into its stride following the controversy to target the NAB chairman to save its own people. “The government’s role in blackmailing the NAB chairman is shameful,” he added.

Khawaja Asif said that PTI leader Jahangir Tareen has shares in the channel that aired the video clip involving the NAB chairman.
PML-N leader condemns Pakistan Army’s check post attack
Talking about the assault on the Khar Qamar check post at Boya in North Waziristan tribal district on Sunday, Khawaja Asif condemned the attack and said the Pakistan Army’s check post should not have been assaulted at any cost. “Security forces should not be attacked. They have rendered immense sacrifices but at the same time we should realise that the faultline be dealt politically and not by force.”
PM should have issued statement on yesterday’s incident
“Bring them into your fold, bring them into the political mainstream,” he said. The PML-N lawmaker also said that the prime minister should have issued a statement on yesterday's incident. “We have been taunted as the friend of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi but now Prime Minister Imran Khan phoned to congratulate on his electoral victory,” he termed.
Grievances of tribal areas should be solved politically
Speaking on the yesterday’s clash at a North Waziristan check post, the PML-N MNA urged lawmakers to play a role in the political resolution to the complaints of tribal areas’ residents. He called for a parliamentary committee to probe the grievances of the people of erstwhile FATA. “The grievances of tribal areas’ residents should be solved politically, not with force,” he said. “Two MNAs are being named in yesterday's incident. One has been arrested while one is said to be at large,” Asif said.
