ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Taking notice of sudden hike in medicine prices from 100 to 300 per cent, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal has directed to launch inquiry against former federal health minister Amir Kiani. According to the details garnered, the NAB chairman ordered to launch inquiry against the former health minister and responsible officers from the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP). Javed Iqbal has instructed NAB Rawalpindi DG to launch investigation against Amir Kiani. It has been revealed that the anti-corruption watchdog had received complaints against Amir Kiani. It is pertinent to mention here that Amir Kiani had been removed from the federal cabinet by Prime Minister Imran Khan over sudden hike in prices of the medicines. After removal from ministry, he said that it is sad that certain quarters have labeled his removal to be owing to incompetence. “The increase in medicine prices were first done under the previous Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) government and partially now because of our exchange rate against the US dollar,” he added. “After this the price of a Rs100 medicine increased to almost Rs240,” he said, adding that, the current government has only marginally increased the prices of medicines. “Due to the rise in dollar exchange rate, we were compelled to increase prices of some medicines between two to nine per cent,” he said.
