ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The NAB on Wednesday filed a review petition in the Supreme Court on the verdict of granting bail to PML-N leaders Khawaja Saad Rafique and Khawaja Salman Rafique in the Paragon Housing Society corruption case. The top court has been urged to review its March 17 decision of granting bail to Khawaja Saad Rafique and Salman Rafique. The NAB requested the SC to overrule the verdict of Khawaja brothers’ bail. A three-member bench hears the NAB cases according to the rules whereas Saad Rafique and Salman Rafique were granted bail by a two-member bench, the NAB maintained. The application stated, “The Supreme Court’s observation will affect the trial of the corruption case. The bail decision by the court violated the rules defined by the larger bench as the top court had directed to issue a short verdict. “The apex court’s two-member bench wrote an 87-page decision. The court should remove paragraphs 18 to 48 and 56 to 70 from its verdict.” On March 17, the apex court had approved the bails of the Khawaja brothers against two surety bonds worth Rs 3 million each in the housing scandal case.
Paragon Housing scam
According to NAB, Khawaja Saad Rafique in collusion with his wife Ghazala Saad Rafique Butt, brother Salman Rafique, Qaiser Amin Butt and Nadeem Zia had launched a housing project named Air Avenue, which was later renamed to Paragon City (Pvt) Ltd).
