NAB finds evidence against Ahsan Iqbal in Narowal Sports City probe

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – A key progress in the probe against Pakistan Muslim League N (PML-N) central leader Ahsan Iqbal as the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) found evidences against him in the Narowal Sports City project. According to the sources, the NAB has received a complete record of Narowal Sports City project to probe the alleged financial irregularity which took the estimated construction cost of Rs300 million to Rs3 billion. Noose tightened around another PML-N leader and a NAB from Rawalpindi chapter acquired the documents record of the project and contacts form the concerned departments. The bureau also recorded the statement from record keepers of Narowal Sports City project. The corruption watchdog sought all details of bank accounts of the former interior minister’s three sons, daughter and wife besides his personal assets and bank record. It was also reported that the interrogation process with officers of different institutions has also completed and further details were also sought from them. The anti-graft watchdog has also decided to take responsibility of the probe being carried out by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in the project. It is pertinent to mention here that Ahsan Iqbal is accused of starting the project worth Rs3 billion illegally. Pakistan Sports Board is also accused of illegally using its authority for the construction of this project. On October 15, the NAB approved new inquiry against Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) General Secretary Ahsan Iqbal in assets beyond income allegations. Earlier, Ahsan Iqbal is accused of causing losses worth billions to the national exchequer by initiating the Sports City project in his home constituency. The PML-N leader had appeared before the NAB Rawalpindi chapter, in a probe related to Narowal Sports City. He was interrogated about the complaint of corruption in the sports project in Narowal. Last year, NAB had announced that it would initiate a probe into alleged violation of rules in the construction of the National Sports City project – just a day after its inauguration by President Mamnoon Hussain.
