NAB summons deceased person in assets beyond income
March 2, 2020
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has issued a summon order to a deceased person in assets beyond income case on Sunday. The NAB has sent a notice to a person, who had passed away eight years ago, to appear before joint investigation team (JIT) on March 3. The anti-graft watchdog notice was sent to Ali Nawaz Shah who was deceased brother of senior Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Khursheed Shah. It is pertinent to mention here that the NAB already had issued summon notice to another deceased Abdul Fateh earlier. Earlier, an accountability court (AC) in Sukkur adjourned hearing of income beyond known source of income against Khursheed Shah till February 18. During the hearing, the PPP leader was presented before court. The hearing of the accountability court Sukkur bench was adjourned for February 18 and the court directed to present all accused in the case including the PPP leader on the day. Khursheed Shah was brought to the court on an ambulance from National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) Sukkur, where he is currently being treated for various illness during NAB custody. On Sept 18, 2019 the NAB arrested senior PPP leader Syed Khursheed Shah in a case regarding his alleged assets beyond means. “NAB Sukkur arrested Syed Khursheed Shah in the assets beyond means case,” a brief handwritten statement issued by NAB Islamabad said. Multiple corruption cases against Shah are under investigation with NAB. In 2012, an accountability court had directed NAB to file a reference against him on a complaint pertaining to alleged accumulation of illegitimate assets. In 2013, NAB had reopened two corruption cases against Shah under the directives of the Lahore High Court. In July, 2019, NAB Chairman retired justice Javed Iqbal had approved nine inquiries against different personalities, including Shah.
