LAHORE (92 News) – A combined investigation team of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) grilled former premier Nawaz Sharif in Chaudhry Sugar Mills case. Nawaz Sharif had been given on 14-day physical remand to the NAB by an accountability court on October 11 over charges of money laundering in Chaudhry Sugar Mills case. According to the sources, the combined team interrogated Nawaz Sharif and he has not given satisfactory answers to the 13 questions raised by the investigators. He insisted upon questioning his son Hussain as he is handling the business affairs. “The investigators questioned Sharif for the alleged money laundering of Rs410 million through the partnership of Yousuf Abbas and her daughter Maryam Nawaz. To this, Sharif replied that they should table the questions to the concerned persons as business is not an illegal thing.” The sources further revealed that a question was tabled before Nawaz Sharif regarding the sources of loan worth $15.52 million that had been acquired for the sugar Mills. Sharif refused to answer it too, saying that he is unaware of the details as the record of the loan is not present with him. It is pertinent to mention here that the permission to quiz the Pakistan Muslim League-N supremo in an ongoing probe related to Chaudhry Sugar Mills case was given by an accountability court. On October 11, court remanded Nawaz Sharif in the custody of the NAB for 14 days in the Ch Sugar Mills case. The court ordered to produce him again on October 25. During the hearing, the NAB prosecutor told court that Nawaz Sharif was the prime minister when Chaudhry Sugar Mills was established. “The prime minister misused his public office. Nawaz Sharif was involved in money laundering and he has to be investigated,” he said. Nawaz Sharif said that he would quit politics if corruption of a single penny is proved against him.
