LAHORE (92 News) – The nation is celebrating 140th birth anniversary of poet-philosopher and conceiver of idea of Pakistan Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal with traditional zeal across the country on Thursday. Born on November 9, 1877 in Sialkot, Allama Iqbal was a great representative of the subcontinent and one of the main exponents of the Pakistan Movement. Called the Sufi poet of the modern age he was a man of great ideas – dynamics, romanticism and profound. Iqbal was both a great poet, serious thinker and philosopher, who infused a revolutionary spirit in the Muslim youth of the subcontinent at the time through his poetry. Iqbal’s poetry has been translated in Spanish, Chinese, Japanese,English and several other languages. To mark the day, people from different sections are visiting Mazar-e-Iqbal in Lahore to pay homage to the national hero. The poet-philosopher died on April 21, 1938. Literary, educational, political, social and cultural organizations are arranging special programs across the country to pay homage to the national poet and highlight different aspects of his life and teachings. In his message on Iqbal Day, President Mamnoon Hussain has urged the nation to utilize their capabilities for achieving the national goals in the light of teachings of Allama Iqbal. He said the summery of Iqbal's poetry is that brave nations fight with devotion and hardworking to meet the challenges. The President said that the government, in past few years, tried to control the difficulties including the challenge of terrorism with dedication and bravery and achieved unprecedented successes. Meanwhile, a graceful change of guard ceremony was held at Mazar e Iqbal in Lahore today. A contingent of Pakistan Navy took guards duties from Punjab Rangers. Station Commander Navy Lahore, Commodore Sajid Mehmood Shahzad was the chief guest on the occasion who laid a floral wreath over the great philosopher poet's grave and offered Fateha. Lahore Corps Commander Lieutenant General Amir Riyaz also visited the mausoleum of Dr Allama Iqbal.
