LAHORE (92 News) The 147th birth anniversary of Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the national poet of Pakistan, is being observed with national fervour across the country today.
Allama Iqbal, who is often regarded as the "Poet of the East", was born in Sialkot on November 9, 1877.
He presented the idea of a separate state for the Muslims of the subcontinent in his historic address at Allahabad in 1930.
His address gave a clear direction and separate identity to Muslims of the subcontinent to achieve Pakistan.
He also awakened the Muslims of the subcontinent through his powerful poetry.
The federal government had announced a public holiday on November 9, 2024, across the country to commemorate the birth anniversary of Allama Iqbal.
All public offices, banks, schools, colleges, universities, and other institutions are closed today.
Ceremonies, poetry recitations, and educational events are also being held across Pakistan to honour Allama Iqbal as the ideologue of Pakistan and highlight his ideas on philosophy and national identity.
