Nawaz resumes journey to Lahore

JEHLUM (92 News) – Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has today (Friday) resumed his journey to Lahore from Islamabad via the famous Grand Trunk Road (GT Road) from Jehlum. The former prime minister spent last night at a local hotel in Jehlum. The next stop of Nawaz Sharif’s caravan would be Gujranwala. Addressing a mammoth gathering on Thursday, the former prime minister said that the country had plunged into darkness in 2013, adding that the country was sinking and they saved it. “Did I commit corruption?” he questioned the workers. He said that all will have to be changed if they loved progress of the country and youths’ future. “I have been disqualified as I was taking the country to progress. Why was I disqualified if corruption did not prove against me?” he questioned. He said that no prime minister could complete his/her tenure. “You form the government by giving votes and a dictator or five honorable judges send him home,” he maintained. Nawaz Sharif said that he had been ousted for not receiving salary from his son’s company. “The people should have the right to sack the prime minister. Is there anyone to punish a dictator?” Addressing a gathering in Dina, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has said that he has left the country better than 2013, adding that his disqualification is an insult to the electorate. He asked the people to support him to change the destiny of the country. “Let’s build a new Pakistan,” he said. “Why have I been punished? Now this drama should come to an end. ” On the other hand, huge contingent of police from the other districts of the province including Multan and Sahiwal have reached Lahore to perform security duties on the arrival of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif. The personnel of Punjab Constabulary have also been called in Lahore, while the police personnel have reached Police Lines Qilla Gujjar Singh. On Wednesday, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leadership including Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister of Foreign Affairs Khajawa Asif bid farewell to Nawaz Sharif who embarked on his journey to Lahore road show via the famous Grand Trunk Road (GT Road). A large number of people attended a rally and procession in support of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif yesterday as he embarked on a show of political power following a Supreme Court decision to disqualify him from office over undeclared assets. Sharif launched the so-called “caravan” procession from Islamabad to his eastern hometown of Lahore, despite the concerns of advisers about security. Backers of Sharif danced and showered his vehicle with rose petals as the procession took nine hours to reach Rawalpindi from Islamabad. Sharif’s supporters assaulted the crew of two local TV stations, which have been critical of him during the months of court proceedings.
