LAHORE (92 News) - Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has been re-elected as president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) unopposed after six years in the intra-party elections on Tuesday.

The PML-N General Council meeting was held in a local hotel. A resolution was passed for presidentship during the meeting. No candidate submitted his nomination papers against Nawaz Sharif.

Addressing the meeting after his reelection as the PML-N president, Nawaz Sharif said that Shehbaz Sharif refused the offer to become the prime minister after deserting him.

“Today the verdict of former chief justice Saqib Nisar has been thrown into a dustbin. I was removed for not getting the salary from his son. I had not demanded the salary from other’s son,” he added.

The PML-N president said that they all should accept they had damaged themselves. “Legs of the people working for the country have been pulled since 1947. The country would have been prosperous if the leg pullers had not intruded in 1990,” he maintained.

Nawaz Sharif said that General (retd) Zaheerul Islam had stated that the third force could come in the country. “The PTI founder should tell whether he was not the third force. I will quit politics if he (PTI founder) refuses it,” he challenged.

He also mentioned the sacrifices given by Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Miftah Ismail and other leaders. “Conspiracies being hatched by the PTI founder will fail,” he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that he was retuning the trust given to him by the party leaders. “Today Nawaz Sharif has succeeded and his opponents have been defeated,” he added.
