NEPRA approves hike in electricity prices by 55 paisas per unit
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Tuesday approved an increase in electricity prices by 55 paisas per unit.
The decision has been made under April’s fuel price adjustment. An additional burden of Rs5.20 billion will be put on the consumers after the hike in the prices.
According to NEPRA, the Re-Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) based power plants were not used in April.
According to the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA), 22.94 per cent electricity was produced from hydel resources in April, 10.34 per cent from coal, 18.24 per cent from local gas, 30.83 per cent from imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) and 7.67 per cent from atomic resources.
The surge in prices will not be charged from lifeline, K-Electric and agricultural consumers. The rest will be charged in bills of the upcoming month.
Nepra approves 81-paisa increase in power rates
On April 4, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) approved a 81-paisa increase in the power rates.
As a result of the increase in the power rates, consumers have to bear an additional burden of Rs5.20 billion.
The increase will be applicable to all distribution companies, including K-Electric. It will be applicable to the next month’s bills. It has been made under the head of the monthly fuel adjustment.
On Feburary 4, National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) notified to increase the power tariff by Rs 0.5685 KWh on account of fuel price adjustment for the month of December 2018.
According to the notification, the prices have been increased under September’s fuel adjustment charges. The power consumers, except lifeline consumers and the consumers of K-Electric, would face a burden of approximately Rs4.2 billion due to an increase in the power tariff.
