ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Tuesday approved to increase the power tariff by Rs4 per unit.

The people will have to bear the burden of over Rs51 billion in the name of the monthly fuel adjustment. However, the increase will not be applicable to the consumers of the K-Electric.

On the other hand, the NEPRA is likely to decide the applications of the power distribution companies seeking an increase of Rs8 per unit in the basic tariff.

The NEPRA had completed the hearing of the applications of the power distribution companies with regard to their revenue needs. The Energy Ministry said that the Power Division would make the decision after the decision of the NEPRA.

Sources said that the government would make the decision on the targeted subsidy after the NEPRA decision. The power rate will be increased due to fuel prices, circular debt and company losses. The increase, however, is likely to be made phase-wise.
