NEPRA constitutes high level committee to probe power breakdown

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has constituted a committee to probe the massive power breakdown that plunged the country into darkness.

According to the details, the committee will include prominent engineers from the regulator as well as private sector which will give their recommendations. The committee also investigate the reasons behind the breakdown.

The government had earlier handed over the investigation to the officers of the agencies responsible for the breakdown. However, the NEPRA took the responsibility of the investigation after matter raised by 92 News. The sources informed that the failure of repair the relay system in power station was caused the technical fault.

Earlier on Sunday, National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) on Sunday has constituted a committee for inquiry into major power breakdown.

It is pertinent to mention here that the all country plunged into darkness on Saturday night, however, partially power restored and complete restoration of the energy will take some more hours.

According to details, NTDC told that the frequency level had dropped to zero from 50 in less than a second due to tripping in high transmission system following a technical fault at Guddo Thermal Power Plant at 11:41pm.

This glitch caused shutdown of other power plants plunging parts of the country into darkness, the company representative added. NTDC further told that initial report over the blackout has been prepared.
