February 10, 2021

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The government fell another inflation bomb on consumers as the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has increased power tariff by Rs1.53 per unit under the fuel adjustment mechanism for the month of December.

According to the notification, the increase in power tariff by the government will add an additional burden of Rs10 billion on electricity consumers.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had requested an increase of Rs 1.80 per unit, on which NEPRA had held a public hearing on January 27 at the FCA, after which an increase of Rs 1.53 was decided upon.

The increase will only apply to bills of the month of February and on customers of all Discos, except Lifeline and K-Electric. The order applies to the customers of the following electricity companies:

These companies are collectively called the Ex-WAPDA distribution companies (DISCOs).

The increase will not apply to lifeline consumers, those consuming less than 50 units a month, and will be shown separately in the consumers’ February 2021 bills on the basis of units billed to the consumers in the month of December 2020.

Customers will pay this amount in February.
