New LHC bench hearing case against Sharifs dissolved
April 2, 2018
LAHORE (92 News) – The larger bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) formed in the contempt of court case against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and others was dissolved on Monday after Justice Shahid Mobeen rescued himself from the case. The bench was dissolved after Justice Shahid Mobeen, a member, rescued himself from the case. The bench was formed under the leadership of Justice Mazhar Ali Akbar Naqvi. Earlier on March 31, the same bench was dissolved after Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan, a member, was transferred to LHC Multan Bench. Previously, the petitioners contend that the PML-N leadership had been making derogatory speeches against Supreme Court judges after verdict in Panama Papers case that led to Nawaz Sharif’s disqualification. The pleas further stated that the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) also did nothing to stop live telecast and broadcast of such speeches. Interestingly, the Supreme Court has already rejected similar petitions to initiate contempt cases against Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz Sharif and others including Captain (r) Safdar.
