LAHORE (92 News) - The newly-elected MPAs took the oath in the Punjab Assembly on Friday.
Punjab Assembly Speaker Sibtain Khan administered the oath and congratulated the newly-elected MPAs. Chief Minister-designate Maryam Nawaz also took the oath as MPAs. 215 MPAs belonging to the PML-N and the allied parties and 98 members of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) took the oath.
The elections for the slots of Punjab Assembly speaker and deputy speaker will be held on Saturday.
Earlier, the Punjab Assembly session started after a delay of two hours. Over 200 MPAs belonging to the PML-N and other allied parties reached the House. The MPAs accorded a rousing welcome to Maryam Nawaz on her arrival.
The PML-N MPAs were also carrying the posters of Nawaz Sharif. With the start of the proceedings, the MPAs belonging to the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) started protesting for the reserved seats. They also exchanged hot words with the PML-N MPAs. They also besieged the dais of the speaker.
Punjab Assembly Speaker Sibtain Khan said that no MPAs can be stopped from taking the oath until he was present in court. "All will be allowed to take the oath," he ruled.
Strict security arrangements had been made for the session.
