NICOP case: Ahsan Iqbal assures SC of giving relief to overseas Pakistanis

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday resumed hearing of case related to fee for issuance of national identity cards (NICs) to overseas Pakistanis. A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar conducted the hearing of the case. During the proceedings, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal appeared before the court and assured the apex court of providing relief till next Tuesday. Giving his remarks, the CJP said that the overseas Pakistanis love their homeland, adding that they play an important role in building the country's economy by sending foreign exchange reserves. Justice Saqib Nisar observed that the overseas Pakistanis must receive special relief from the NADRA and a report in the top court this week. The minister assured the court of providing relief to overseas Pakistanis. The court while directing to submit a report in the apex court adjourned the hearing. In the previous hearing, the Supreme Court (SC) had summoned Interior Minister and Interior Secretary. Giving his remarks, the CJP said that the on what basis the government sent back a summary pertaining to fee for issuance of national identity cards (NICs) to overseas Pakistanis. What was the reason to reject a summary with regard to fee structure for overseas Pakistanis, he asked.
