KARACHI (92 News) – Sindh Healthcare Commission (SHCC) sealed the Out Patient Department (OPD), Emergency and many other department of Darul Sehat over death of nine-month-old Nishwa.
On Wednesday late night,
SHCC chairman Dr Tipu Sultan said that the ICU and CCU wards, however, are still open and the treatment for patients will continue.
Dr Sultan also said that according to the law, providing health facilities to the patients in the hospital is compulsory, adding that the hospital administration should provide healthcare facilities to the patients.
He informed that more than 50 patients including women, men and children were still being treated in various wards of the hospital.
It was reported that the SHCC directed the Darul Shehat admin to shift the under treatment patients to another hospital within 48 hours.
Sindh CM orders to seal hospital
Earlier, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah directed to sealed Darul Sehat Hospital over Nishwa’s death.
The Sindh chief minister expressed dissatisfaction with the report of Sindh Health Care Commission for negligence, violation of rules and administering wrong injection to nine-month-old Nishwa.
In its report, the commission had recommended a monetary penalty of Rs500,000 on Darul Sehat Hospital and ordered the medical facility to sack the ‘untrained’ staff in wake of mistreatment and resultant death of toddler girl Nishwa.
Hospital management resists closure of Darul Sehat
Hospital management had resisted the government officials and called the women for their support. This all happened when the government officials had arrived to seal OPD facility of the hospital. It created tension between the opponent parties on this occasion.
However, upon realising that they were being given extra coverage by the media, the women (about 40-50) left in rickshaws. Citizens raised slogans against the hospital demanding its closure.
On April 14, the nine-month-old girl had paralysed allegedly after being administered ‘wrong injection’ by ‘untrained nursing staff’ at Darul Sehat Hospital situated in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area.
