No decision yet on Raikkonen, says Ferrari boss

MONZA, Italy (Reuters) - Ferrari have yet to take a decision on whether to retain Kimi Raikkonen for 2019, the Italian Formula One team’s new chief executive Louis Camilleri said . “When we take that decision, and there is no timeframe, you will be the second to know,” Camilleri told reporters at Ferrari’s home Italian Grand Prix, a race where the team have often made announcements in the past. “I know Kimi very well. He’s a dear friend, has been for a long time,” added Camilleri, who was appointed in July just days before the death of his predecessor Sergio Marchionne and was holding his first paddock news conference. Raikkonen, the 2007 world champion who will be 39 in October, is out of contract at the end of the season and there is plenty of speculation about whether or not he will be kept on. Sauber’s Ferrari-backed 20-year-old Charles Leclerc is seen as the likely successor. “It’s a team decision,” said Camilleri. “As Maurizio (Arrivabene) is our team principal, ultimately he’ll take the decision.”
