ISLAMABAD (92 New) – Foreign Minister (FM) Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that the PTI government has set a new trend for declaring asset details of cabinet members and no law bars dual nationals from holding any public offices other than being parliamentarians. In a statement, FM Qureshi maintained that the PTI-led government set a new trend for declaring assets of the cabinet members on the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan. “Those having dual nationality can neither become members of Senate nor the National Assembly however, they are not prohibited from assuming any other office,” he added. The foreign minister also said non-elected people held important positions in previous governments as well. “There is no law barring them from taking up other responsibilities in a government set-up,” he maintained. Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the constitution has clarified that dual nationality holders cannot become members of the parliament. The minister further said that dual elected and non-elected members are needed in the government for healthy balance. “The Constitution gives space to the prime minister to nominate four advisors who have technocratic expertise,” he added.
