No one will be allowed to misuse dams' funds, warns CJP

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Friday warned that no one was allowed to misuse the dam's funds, which being collected for construction of dams, for resolving Pakistan's water crisis. During a case hearing, the chief justice remarked that the Supreme Court has appealed the general public to gather funds for immediate construction of Bhasha and Mohmand dams. He reiterated that the need for building dams to overcome the country's acute water shortage. "We will not allow anyone misuse these funds. The funds will be guarded. We will not allow the people to buy houses and cars from this money," the chief justice remarked. The chief justice remarked that the Supreme Court’s website will be updated every hour so that the public may know how much funds have been collected. Earlier on Wednesday, the Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered immediate construction of Bhasha and Mohmand dams. The chief justice donated Rs one million for the dams and asked the nation to donate for the purpose. The CJP remarked that the CCI and experts are agreed on the construction of dams. “Water is inevitable for the survival of the country,” he added. He also formed a committee headed by WAPDA chairman to implement the court verdict. The WAPDA chairman told court that US$11 billion is required for the Bhasha Dam and Rs 309 billion for Mohmand Dam.
