No survivors from crashed Ethiopian Airlines flight with 157 aboard

ADDIS ABABA (92 News) – An Ethiopian Airlines flight to Nairobi carrying 149 passengers and eight crew members has crashed on Sunday morning . An Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737, en route from Adis to Nairobi, crashed shortly after takeoff killing all 157 thought to be on board, according to statements from the airline and the state broadcaster. According to the spokesman of the airlines, the incident occurred in 62 kilometers southeast of the capital Addis Ababa. The Ethiopian prime minister’s office also confirmed the news in a condolence tweet to the families of those lost in the crash. The flight left Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa at 8:38am local time, before losing contact with the control tower just a few minutes later at 8:44am. “There are no survivors onboard the flight, which carried passengers from 33 countries,” said state-run Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation, quoting an unidentified source at the airline. “We hereby confirm that our scheduled flight ET 302 from Addis Ababa to Nairobi was involved in accident today,” the airline said in a statement. “It is believed that there were 149 passengers and eight crew on board the flight but we are currently confirming the details of the passenger manifest for the flight.” “Search and rescue operations are in progress and we have no confirmed information about survivors or any possible casualties,” the airline said.
