Non-implementation of SOPs, NCOC hints at re-imposing lockdown

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) has warned to impose strict steps to control recent spike in COVID-19 cases in the country on Wednesday.

A meeting of the NCOC chaired by Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar expressed concern over surge in coronavirus cases in the country.

Due to non-implementation of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), the country is fast approaching a point where there will be "no choice" left but to impose another sweeping lockdown. The NCOC hinted at to re-impose lockdown if the corona situation become alarming.

The NCOC meeting has directed the chief secretaries of all provinces to ensure implementation of SOPs related to coronavirus. The meeting expressed concern over rising number of coronavirus cases and deaths from the virus. It has urged special attention on high risk sectors like transportation, markets, banquet halls and restaurants.

It has also stressed on ensuring mandatory mask wearing and social distancing and recommended strict action against violators of government orders.

On October 20, Asad Umar had said that daily Covid-19 death rate spiked to 140 per cent last week as compared with the mortality rate recorded few weeks back.
