Not dependent on anyone for a match, says Shahid Afridi

PESHAWAR (92 News) – Amid speculation that he has sought a farewell match, Pakistan’s flamboyant all-rounder and former T20 skipper Shahid Afridi has on Sunday said that he is too experienced and seasoned a cricketer to make such a demand and ruled out calling it quits anytime soon. Addressing a press conference in Peshawar on Sunday, he said he has played 20 years of international cricket for Pakistan and not the PCB. And he is not dependent on anyone for a match. The love and support he has got and get from well-wishers and fans is enough reward for him." Former Pakistan T20 captain said that he would not ask the PCB for any farewell match. The former captain said India had never responded positively to Pakistan's insistence on playing matches. Revealing his plans for the future, Afridi insisted that he would continue playing in the T20 format as long as he desired and that he would let his bat do the talking as far as selection to the national side is concerned. "I don't think my career is over and I am enjoying myself and I will continue to play at the highest level. As far as Pakistan selection is concerned that is for the selectors to decide," Afridi said. Following Pakistan’s disastrous showing in the 2016 Asia Cup and the World T20 that followed soon after, Afridi had stepped down as skipper of the Pakistan T20 side. While many believed that he would announce his retirement from all forms of international cricket at the same time, the move never materialized with the leading T20 wicket taker in the world still eager to continue playing in the shortest format of the game at the highest level.
