Notice issued to RO for NA-95, petition dismissed against Maryam

LAHORE (92 News) – An appellate tribunal on Saturday issued a notice to the returning officer over rejection of Imran's candidature for NA-95 and a petition challenging Maryam Nawaz 's candidature was dismissed by the from constituency PP-173 of Punjab Assembly. Justice Faisal Zaman Khan heard Imran's appeal against the returning officer's decision to reject his candidature. Imran's lawyer Babar Awan asserted that the RO had rejected Imran's nomination papers by stating the candidate had not submitted an affidavit before the deadline. Awan requested the tribunal to overrule the returning officer's decision. The justice issued notices to the returning officer. On the other hand, the appeal of challenging nomination papers of former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi also heard in the tribunal. Khaqan's lawyer requested to the court for extending hearing for certain time. The hearing was then adjourned till June 25. The petitioner, who had challenged Maryam’s nomination papers, claimed that Maryam Nawaz possessed two CNICs. The appellate tribunal stated that the petition is inadmissible and dismissed it. Currently, Maryam Nawaz has decided to contest upcoming general elections from National Assembly constituencies NA-125 and NA-127 in Lahore, and Punjab Assembly constituency PP-173.
