August 14, 2019
SRINAGAR (KMS) – In Occupied Kashmir, all communications and the internet remain cut off and curfew continues for the ninth consecutive day on Tuesday. Indian troops clamped tight restrictions across Kashmir, fearing anti-India protests. Internet and phone communications have been cut and tens of thousands of troop reinforcements have flooded Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir Valley and Doda and Kisthwar areas of Jammu region. The personnel of Central Reserve Police Force, Border Security Force and police are deployed in large numbers at all places. Meanwhile, roads and mosques in Srinagar wore a deserted look on Eid day, yesterday as no big or small gatherings were allowed anywhere in Srinagar and other parts of the valley. International news organization, Reuters, in its report on Eid day said shops were shut, their shutters and walls carrying anti-India graffiti including, “Go India Go Back” and “We Want Freedom”. Several paramilitary and police officials referred to the restrictions as a ‘curfew’ in conversations with Reuters reporters. India’s official stance is that there are restrictions, but no curfew. The restrictions in Srinagar were the city’s tightest ever, two paramilitary officials informed the news agency. Police and troops, many wearing heavy riot gear, dotted silent streets where checkpoints had been added around midnight, with more concertina wire laid out to create barricades.
‘Kashmir won’t be in India in next 30 years’
MDMK, political party active in Tamil Nadu and other states of India, has said that Kashmir will not be in India when the country will celebrate its 100th year of freedom. MDMK chief Vaiko in a media interview said, “Kashmir will not be in India when India will celebrate its 100th year of freedom. They (BJP) have smudged Kashmir in mud. I have expressed my view on Kashmir earlier too. I have attacked Congress 30 per cent and BJP 70 per cent on the Kashmir issue,” he told reporters. Vaiko also said that his party will be organising day-long celebrations to mark the 110th birth anniversary of late chief minister and DMK founder CN Annadurai, popularly known as ‘Anna’. “We are going to hold Anna birthday celebrations next month so we planned to have a public meeting celebration. Today I came to see how to construct the stage and viewed the ground,” he said. Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam popularly known as MDMK was established in 1994.
