OGRA proposes up to Rs15 cut in fuel prices

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – In a major blow to the consumers, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) on Friday proposed a summary to reduce the prices of petroleum products up to Rs15 per litre for the next month of January-2019. As per details garnered, the OGRA has recommended Rs9.50 per litre cut in the price of petrol, diesel Rs15 per litre, light diesel Rs2 per litre and kerosene oil by Rs0.25 per litre. The summary for the revision of petroleum price for the month of January has been sent to the Ministry of Petroleum. The decision would be announced after the prime minister’s approval on December 31. The expected new price will be announced for the public after approval from finance ministry and the prime minister. These prices would be implemented from January 1. On the other hand, the consumers appreciated the government’s step to decrease the prices of petroleum products and termed as this decision the public-friendly. Considering the decreasing the prices of petrol as relief for the general masses in tough time, they also said that the prices of things hiked due to increase the petroleum prices. Earlier before the incumbent government, the prices of petroleum products have been increased by caretaker government around Rs7.5 per litre. The move has been approved by the OGRA. However, the consumers had criticised the move to raise petroleum prices. They had expressed concerns and consequences after hiking the price of petroleum products.
