OIC FMs meeting today to discuss NZ terror attacks
INSTANBUL (92 News) – An emergency meeting of the OIC Foreign Ministers is being held in Istanbul on Friday (today) to discuss the terrorist attacks on two mosques in New Zealand and increasing violence based on Islamophobia.
According to Turkish Foreign Ministry, the open ended meeting will be chaired by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.
Representatives from international organizations such as the United Nations, European Union and Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe have also been invited to the meeting.
OIC Secretary General Dr Yousef A Al-Othaimeen will present at the meeting an overview of the organization's efforts to raise awareness about the threat posed by Islamophobia and countering all forms and manifestations of terrorism.

The meeting will also discuss the efforts to protect and support Muslim communities throughout the world. Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has arrived in Turkey to attend the OIC Foreign Minister meeting. Pakistan’s Ambassador to Turkey Syrus Sajjad Qazi and other officials of Pakistan embassy received him at Ataturk International Airport in Istanbul. Shah Mehmood Qureshi will also meet his Turkish, Iranian and New Zealand counterparts on the sidelines of the meeting. In New Zealand, Jumma prayer was broadcast live on State Radio and Television across the country to express solidarity with those martyred in terrorist attack in Christchurch last Friday.
The Muslim call to prayer rang out over Christchurch and around New Zealand on Friday, as thousands gathered to remember the 50 people martyred by a lone gunman at two mosques a week ago.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern also joined thousands of people gathered at Hagley Park in front of the Al-Noor Mosque, where most of the victims martyred, in Christchurch.
In her brief speech to the Jumma congregation, which was also attended by women wearing headscarves, she said, “New Zealand mourns with you. We are one.” Jacinda Ardern also read out a Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (SAWW). Her speech was followed by two minutes silence.
