OPDs reopen as doctors end strike in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

PESHAWAR (92 New) – All Out Patient Departments (OPDs) in government hospitals reopened after doctors ended their strike on Wednesday. The doctors have ended their strike after successful talks with Chief Minister Mahmood Khan. Both sides agreed to form two committees for the resolution of the disputes. The doctors had started to the strike after health minister’s guards subjected a doctor to torture. The chief minister convinced the 17-member committee of doctors to end their strike. KPk Information Minister Shaukat Yousafzai, Special Assistant to Prime Minister Iftikhar Durrani, Health secretary and other officers were also present in the talks held at CM House. Doctors have resumed their duties in all three hospitals of the city. During the strike, patients faced numerous problems in getting treatment across the province.

Doctors postpone strike for two days in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

On Monday, doctors postponed their strike for two days in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.  Out Patient Departments (OPDs) were opened in all hospitals, including Lady reading, across Peshawar. Provincial Minister for Health Shaukat Yousafzai said that a delegation of doctors will meet Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan on May 21. Meanwhile, the Doctors Council has formed a five-member committee to hold talks with Chief Minister Mahmood Khan. After the torture of Dr Zia, the protesting doctors demanded the resignation of Health Minister Hisham Inamullah and Board of Governors Chairman Nowsherwan Burki and demanded a case against him. The provincial government has expressed the resolve to introduce reforms in government hospitals at all costs. It wants to transfer the doctors to districts from where they belong.
