Opposition rejects govt’s decision to hike in petrol prices

LAHORE (92 News) – Opposition leaders, including Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) president Shehbaz Sharif on Monday rejected the decision of federal government to hike petrol prices by up to 6.45 per cent. The statement was issued after the opposition meeting at Shehbaz Sharif’s residence in Lahore. Calling the recent hike in prices of electricity, taxes, gas, households and petroleum products, the opposition parties have strongly rejected the government’s decision and taken the issue to parliament. The opposition decided to record their protest in the parliament and demanded the government to reverse the fresh hike in petroleum prices. It also stated that the incumbent government is not able to run the affairs of Pakistan. During the meeting, Shehbaz Sharif demanded the government to immediately summon session of National Assembly to brief the House on issues pertaining to increase in the prices of petroleum products. Opposition Leader in National Assembly, Shehbaz Sharif took to Twitter and called for the government to take back the decision as per which petrol and diesel prices were increased by Rs6 per litre. “The government should take back the bewildering increase in petrol and diesel prices. The ‘tsunami of inflation’ has made life extremely difficult for the Pakistani nation,” he said. It was rumoured that oil has been found along the coast of Karachi. People were excited until were informed that petrol price has been increased by Rs6. Govt increases petrol, diesel prices by Rs6 per litre
A day earlier, the government increased the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs6 per litre each. Meanwhile, the prices of kerosene and light diesel oil (LDO) have been increased by Rs3 a litre for April 2019 effective from Monday (today) till midnight of April 30. With this increase, the petrol prices have been increased from the existing Rs92.88 to Rs98.88/litre. Prices of High Speed Diesel (HSD), which is widely used in transport and agriculture sector, have been increased to Rs117.43 per litre from the earlier Rs111.43 a litre. The Kerosene oil price has been increased from earlier Rs86.31 to Rs89.31 per litre. This fuel is used for cooking purposes, especially in remote areas where LPG or pipeline gas is not available. The Light Diesel Oil (LDO) price has been increased from earlier Rs77.53 to Rs80.53 per litre. This fuel is mainly used for industrial purposes.
