Opposition submits ‘no-trust motion’ against Senate chairman

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The opposition in the Senate on Tuesday submitted a “no-trust motion” against Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani. According to the details, the 11-member opposition’s anti-government Rahbar Committee had moved a resolution and requisition to summon a session of Senate. The resolution was signed by 38 senators before submission of resolution as no-trust motion. Prior to the submission of motion, the opposition’s Rahbar Committee held a meeting for consensus to remove the chairman Senate. The senators belonging to the opposition thrash out a strategy for the no-confidence motion. The meeting chaired by Opposition Leader in Senate Raja Zafarul Haq, who had lost to Sanjrani in last year’s polls for the office of Senate chairman. The Rahbar committee will hold a second session on July 11, where it will likely announce the name of joint candidate for the post of Chairman Senate. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9PVu-JNoeA It is noteworthy that the leadership of the two main opposition parties behind bars on corruption charges took a first step towards mounting pressure on the incumbent government. The decision to convene the meeting was taken after National Party (NP) leader Mir Hasil Khan Bijenjo called on Raja Zafarul Haq. Earlier, the opposition’s Rehbar Committee held and decided to announce the joint candidate for Senate chairman on July 11.

The 11 member committee of opposition parties held its first meeting in Islamabad, took an oath of confidentiality and formulated a policy to run anti-government movement.

Two members each from Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP), while one member each makes up the Rahbar Committee. The committee decided about future course of action in the meeting, including the removal of Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani. After the meeting, JUIF-leader Akram Khan Durrani said that he had been chosen convener for the next two months. He mentioned that the position will rotate among all member parties. Durrani also announced that the opposition parties had formally decided to remove Sanjrani from his post. A resolution will be submitted in Senate on July 9 in this regard, he said.
