Opposition unable to agree on a joint candidate for presidential election

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The opposition has so far failed to agree on a joint candidate for the president as Aitzaz Ahsan and Maulana Fazlur Rahman are adamant to contest the election. Talking to the media on Sunday, Qamar Zaman Kaira said that they neither are in alliance with anyone nor were in the past. He said that they will win if Maulana Fazlur Rahman withdraws from the race. Kaira said that they were ready to meet Nawaz Sharif on the wish of Shehbaz Sharif, but the meeting could not occur. PPP leader Khurshid Shah is hopeful of a reaching consensus on the joint candidate. On the other hand, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman has reached Lahore to meet Shehbaz Sharif. PTI’s Dr Arif Alvi, PPP’s Aitzaz Ahsan and JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman having support of the PML-N and other parties are in the race for the president slot.
