LOS ANGELES (Web Desk) No Other Land, a powerful documentary depicting the struggle of Palestinians resisting home demolitions by the Israeli military, won the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature at the 2025 Academy Awards.
The film, directed by Palestinian activist Basel Adra and Israeli journalist Yuval Abraham, follows Adra's efforts to document the destruction of his hometown, Masafer Yatta, in the southern West Bank.
Filmed over four years, the documentary captures Palestinian residents' struggles as the Israeli military repurposes their land, using Adra’s camcorder footage to highlight his efforts to raise awareness and his bond with Abraham, who helps amplify his story despite their differing privileges.
In his speech, Adra called for action to end Palestinian "ethnic cleansing," while Abraham urged a political solution and criticised United States (US) foreign policy for hindering peace efforts.
No Other Land has garnered critical acclaim, having won major awards at the Berlin International Film Festival and the New York Film Critics Circle.
Despite its success, the film faces challenges securing distribution in the US.
