LOS ANGELES (Web Desk) The 97th Academy Awards, held on Sunday night, was a glamorous affair filled with star-studded looks on the red carpet, but it was Anora, the dramatic comedy directed by Sean Baker, that stole the show.
Hosted by Conan O'Brien, the ceremony, held amid Los Angeles' recovery from recent wildfires, was notably less political than expected.
Anora dominated the night, winning five Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director for Sean Baker, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Actress for Mikey Madison.
Other big winners included The Brutalist, which earned three awards, including Best Actor for Adrien Brody, and Wicked, which won two, including Best Production Design and Best Costume Design.
Conan O'Brien's monologue kept the tone light, with only subtle political references, including a nod to the ongoing tensions between the US and Russia. While a few remarks alluded to divisive politics, the evening largely focused on celebrating Hollywood and the arts.
The nearly four-hour ceremony featured performances by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, along with a tribute to fire-ravaged Los Angeles, capturing both an emotional and celebratory tone.
This year’s Oscars, despite the occasional political gesture, remained true to its essence—celebrating cinematic achievement with a touch of glamour and a dash of star power.
