Owner declared responsible for collapse of 6-storey building in Karachi

KARACHI (92 News) – The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) officials have declared the owner as responsible for collapse of six-storey building at Ranchore Line in Karachi. The SBCA claimed that the building was collapsed due to the carelessness and stubbornness of the owner. The officials also mentioned that five years ago this building was damaged due to huge blazes that erupted in old timber market. It added that the department declared the building unsafe and directed to vacate the building until necessary renovations are made. The officials maintained that the residents and owner refused to vacate the building despite repeated warnings. According to the SBCA director general (DG), the department has issued an advertisement regarding the dangerous buildings while the many buildings located in Timber Market was also declared dangerous due to the partially damage by the fire. He also declared the owner as responsible for collapsing the building and announced to take action against him. Earlier, a six-storey dilapidated building collapsed at Timber Market in Soomra Gali Ranchor Line, Karachi. It is pertinent to mention here that it was constructed 15 years ago. A six-floor building, having 19 flats tilted down earlier in the day. Taking notice of the matter, the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) officials reached the area and had sealed the building and vacated a few hours ago after it has titled. It comprised more than 50 flats. Rescue teams have reached the site and the area has been cordoned off and the gas and electricity connections to the building have been suspended. The SBCA director general said that the team immediately reached the spot after getting the news about the damage to the building’s foundation. He said inquiry has been launched into the matter.
